LCHA Education Program

a new initiative to serve students in our local schools

Welcome to the LCHA Education Outreach Program pages:

For the 2017 – 2018 school year, the Opening Windows on the Heritage of Lincoln County
booklet has been prepared detailing all of the offerings presently available, and an invitation
to contact me with special requests. I am happy to discuss with you how our program can
contribute to your curriculum. This year we have form partnerships with Colonial Pemaquid
State Historic Site, and the FARMS (Focus on Agriculture in Rural Maine Schools) program.
Our approach to sharing history is interdisciplinary – history is not just a series of dates and
events but a record of daily life. There will be a special week in May, May 14-18, when you
can schedule a field trip to the 1811 old Jail in Wiscasset to see and learn about the workings
of an 1864 printing press (please see page 2 of the booklet).

Our goal through the LCHA Education Outreach Program, now in its fourth year, is to enhance
your curriculum, bringing an insight to the rich local history of Lincoln County to students. I would
like to highlight a few points:

  • The Lesson Resources are complete and do not require additional research or preparation,
outside of copying sheets, for use in the classroom.

  • A staff member is available to present and assists a class with one or more of the Lesson

  • In-School Presentations are not limited to those listed in Opening Windows on the Heritage
of Lincoln County – contact me with your specific interests (please see pages 14 -17 in the booklet).

Thank you for considering the Education Outreach Program of Lincoln County Historical
Association for your students. Please feel free to write or call with any questions.

Louise T. Miller,
Education Director
